A Tasty Alternative

When you hear the words “Almond Milk” you probably start to wonder, how exactly does one milk an almond? Are there squirrels sitting on little milking stools, filling small pales by tugging on tiny little almond utters? Not exactly, but the one thing we do know is that cereal has never tasted so good thanks to its new and tasty alternative to the moo juice, Almond Milk! It’s not only tasty, but it’s also a great substitute for the lactose impaired, and it has taken America by storm.
According to the Washington post, the country’s appetite for almonds has grown more than 220 percent since 2005. You can find almond milk at almost every grocery store, nowadays, but nothing compares to the fresh taste of homemade almond milk. Not to mention, we here at Eat Farm-To-Fork believe that buying your own local ingredients is always the best way to go! This recipe was made with almonds and honey from the Sacramento region
● 1 cup raw almonds
● 4 cups filtered water
● 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
● 2-4 tbsp raw Honey (optional)
● 1pinch Salt
What you will need:
● Nut Milk bag or cheesecloth
Measure out one-cup raw almonds into a sealable container and fill with water. Set container in the fridge and let almonds soak for 8 to 24 hours.
Remove excess water from soaked almonds and add to blender. Add the filtered water, vanilla extract, and honey to a blender. Blend thoroughly until frothy.

Place your nut milk bag over a strainer and put in a large bowl. Pour the blended mixture over the nut milk bag in the bowl. Use a spatula to move around the mixture and help the liquid along. Gather the sides of the nut milk bag and squeeze out the remaining liquid.
Transfer to a container of your choice and enjoy! Be sure to shake well before serving. Store your almond milk in the refrigerator and drink within 2 to 3 days if you haven’t already used it to devour your favorite variety of cereal.
